Life of a Wagyu

We gathered at Il Cuore, a modern Stylish Italian restaurant located at the old Arnotts factory in North Strathfield. It was just a casual family get together which resulted in my tasting one of the best meals I have ever eaten. The meat was so soft and tender it literally melted in my mouth. This is the moment I became a connoisseur of fine beef. This item was not a regular on their menu, but a special. It was known as the 400g Wagyu beef and at $44 I was licking the plate clean.

Apparently these cows originated from Japan and are treated like royalty. Massaged thoroughly with a straw brush, bathed in Shochu, a beer made from distilled barley, and a special diet of sake and relaxed by listening to classical music by Mozart. The higher the marbling effect on the meat, the better! So if you decide to give this a try, make sure you call ahead to make sure they have the Wagyu on the specials menu.

With my obsession of Wagyu, the following week we tried Pyrama, a restaurant in Pyrmont that has Wagyu on the menu. At $34 for 400g, you get what you paid for. It was disappointing. The meat was not as tender and they served it already cut up. Setting was nice but when you have high expectation for the food and let down when it arrives, it kills the rating no matter if it was served on a silver platter.
